Handcrafted from our exclusive father-son recipe, Elijah’s Xtreme Reaper Sauce delivers blistering heat while delivering savory sweet notes from black cherries, cranberries and smooth, barrel-aged bourbon. Bred for heat, with a SHU that peaks at 2.Ģ million, Carolina Reaper Peppers stoke an inferno of flavor to awaken your inner fire-breathing dragon. The hottest hot sauce known to mankind Elijah’s Xtreme Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce is handcrafted from the World’s Hottest Pepper, as ranked by Guinness Records. I’m probably about to order some more right now. Either way if you want some long lasting heat and pungency this is your sauce. In my opinion the heat is an 8/10 but I’ve been out of the spice game for a little while and this is my first step into premium hot sauce besides for the scorpion sauce I mentioned. This can also mix well with ranch, spicy mayo and I don’t doubt other combinations. I saw a review saying it’s great for mixing in pizza sauce if you make it homemade instead of on top and I’m curious to try that. The garlic meshes well and is a huge player for some of the best accompaniments where a garlic flavor is welcome, pizza, chicken tenders, pasta sauce, sandwiches, the usual suspects but get creative! Hell, I had this in some baked beans and it synergized very well with the sweetness yielding this deceptive sweet heat with slow burn. I’m talking an hour (one time two at max) This is the only product I’ve tried with reaper in the name that feels as close as you can get to a fresh pepper in terms of slow burn and that subtle sweetness. If I eat a meal with this sauce with the willy nilly nature of a traditional buffalo sauce it will burn me up with the signature slow decay reaper burn. This is a HOT sauce, and this is coming from someone who has eaten a fresh reaper, dried reaper and scorpion hot sauce with extract. I finished my bottle of this sauce about a week ago and while I’m enjoying the more mild mannered habanero heartbeat sauce I can’t lie and say I wasn’t just thinking about and craving another bottle of this. Now that I’m writing this review, I realize that it’s probably not a sauce I’ll buy again, but wouldn’t mind if someone offered me a little. I got used to the heat, and found that it pairs real well with a bagel and cream cheese (very frequent breakfast food for me).Įventually, I didn’t mind it much. That was probably the maple syrup in this sauce, and I very much got used to it. When I was new to this sauce, I also felt that there was a hint of the kind of flavor they use in liquid medicine. You can get around it by only applying tiny dabs, but that can be tough given how runny it is. It’s just not for me because I prefer sauces that don’t smother the taste of the food under it. There’s a richness to the flavor that I can see people enjoying. If you like sauces like that, give this one a try. Its flavor is more of a centerpiece than an accent. The reason I didn’t enjoy it as much was that it’s a sauce that doesn’t get out of the way. I couldn’t use too much at a time because it was so hot, *and* I didn’t like it all that much. So now I was stuck with a sauce that was tough to get through. Not something I’ll buy again, but can appreciate it.Īnd I could see how the Carolina Reaper pepper was once the hottest in the world. My first impressions was that it’s an okay sauce. It’s a tough review to write for some reason. I’m writing this after almost finishing the bottle. According to Currie, he started developing Pepper X as he found his favorite chili peppers too mild and wanted to have a pepper that had more heat while retaining the flavor.Ĭurrie asserted that it is "two times as hot as the Carolina Reaper", which would make it the hottest pepper in the world with a Scoville scale of 3.18 million Scoville heat units (SHU), but this remains unconfirmed by Guinness World Records the Carolina Reaper remains the hottest official chilli pepper (1,641,183 SHU), as of 2023. ![]() The exceptional pungency of the chili was developed over 10 years of cultivation. Pepper X resulted from several cross breedings that produced an exceptionally high content of capsaicin in the locules of the pepper. Pepper X is a cultivar of Capsicum chili pepper bred by Ed Currie, creator of the Carolina Reaper. Cultivar of Capsicum chili pepper Pepper X ![]()
